As someone who has voted in every election since she turned 18, I love the ease that vote-by-mail affords our fellow Oregonians and I’m passionate about improving ballot access across the country. During the 2018 midterm elections, as I sat at my kitchen table in my pajamas, with my cat comfortably in my lap, filling out my ballot at my leisure, I knew I had to illustrate how easy it is to vote in Oregon compared to other states. I shared this Facebook post to argue that every state should let its citizens be this comfortable while voting and to my surprise, my post was shared more than 33,000 times. I actually had to edit it a year later because it started getting shared again ahead of the 2019 election. I’m pleased to have made my point simply and effectively in a way that resonated with so many people.
I still feel this way, especially considering the dangers of Covid-19 now, and recently wrote an article on Medium describing exactly how vote-by-mail works in Oregon so people in other states could understand the exact process.
